Dear Hockey Players and Parents,

Are you sick of skating 1-3 times a week as a traveling hockey team, getting beat 7-0 against district teams, traveling to other communities for ice time just to practice, and getting off the ice at 10:00pm on a school night due to lack of ice time? Well, we have a solution! We desperately need a 2nd sheet of ice and we are moving forward! We are extremely excited about the potential of our new ice arena hopefully to be built by 2010. In fact, in order for this to happen, WE NEED YOU!

Our 1st fundraiser is The Great Skate Skate-A-Thon, and 100% of the funds raised will go directly towards our 2nd sheet of ice. Not only will this fundraiser raise a lot of money, but it will be so much fun!

We are asking for 100% participation from Shakopee Youth Hockey players in this event. It will cost you nothing but your time and effort. The great skate is an 8-hour skate-a-thon. That’s right; we are asking you to challenge yourself to ice skate for up to 8 hours on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9am until 5pm. How many hours can you skate? 2? 5? Or all 8! We want you to register, collect pledge money from your family, friends, neighbors etc., skate at the event and be proud that you personally have taken huge glides to getting our 2nd sheet of ice built. We all love to skate so why not raise money while we do it??

Each player will get a Great Skate envelope. This envelope will include general information, pledge sheet, registration form, waiver and liability form. Each waiver/liability form must be signed by a parent or guardian of each participant and returned with your player packet on the due date. The Great Skate envelopes will be handed out at the Annual meeting/Social event on March 15th and/or from your team manager during the weekend of March 14th. Wear your Top 10 Reasons Why We Need a 2nd Sheet of Ice t-shirt while you are collecting pledges from March 14-April 7th. You may return your player packet to your team manager before April 4th or drop them at the arena Saturday, April 5th from 9am-11am or Monday, April 7th from 6-8pm. Please have all checks payable to SYHA.

Remember that a 2nd sheet of ice benefits our entire community, not just hockey players. With a 2nd sheet of ice, we can grow together. Not only will we have double the ice times for hockey teams, but we will also have: a huge learn to skate program offered on 2-3 different days a week, we will be eligible to host district 6 hockey tournaments which generate revenue for our entire community, regularly schedule open skating and open hockey, a figure skating club, men’s and women’s leagues, chicks with sticks, curling clubs, and much more. For more information on the progress of our 2nd sheet or this event, please visit our home page www.shakopeehockey.com.

We cannot fund a 2nd sheet of ice with out your participation. If you have any questions regarding this fundraiser, please contact Kallie Bernier kbernier@smgonline.us or 612-719-5755. Thank you!
